If you’ve never seen the construction of a suspension footbridge, the engineering services firm Parsons posted a beautifully shot video as an eight-minute overview. The firm teamed with the non-profit Bridges to Prosperity to build a bridge over the Rio Grande to connect a remote village in Panama to roads and services on the other bank. The community, also called Rio Grande, is home to 200 people and lies in the rainforest 350km (215 miles) outside of Panama City. Parsons and Bridges to Prosperity built the bridge in two weeks, providing the community with year-round access to markets, schools and government and medical services that were unreachable when the river was swollen.
