The AquaDisk Cloth Media Filter is a wastewater treatment technology that uses cloth disks as an alternative to granular media filtration.
The AquaDisk Cloth Media Filter is a system that arranges disks of cloth media for tertiary filtration. The systems are available in arrangements of either six or twelve disks, and the media is chlorine resistant. Powered by a PLC control system, the filter operates in three phases: filter mode, backwash mode, and solids wasting mode. Filter mode involves sending water through the system where solids accumulate on the cloth media. Backwash mode cleans disks, and solids waste mode pumps waste to a collection area.
The AquaDisk price is quoted based on site specifications design following request from the manufacturer.

Design Specifications
The surface area of each cloth media filter disk is 323 cubic feet, with a hydraulic loading of 3.25 GPM/ft2 (ADF). Both packages (6-disk and 12-disk) were designed to optimize wastewater treatment; the 6-disk unit operates at an average capacity of 1042 GPM, while the 12-disk unit enables a flow of 2084 GPM.
Technical Support
Technicians trained by the manufacturer are available for technical support. In addition the technicians provide training to system operators (related to filter disk changing, nutrient removal optimization, etc.) either during site visits or via video clips.
Replacement Components
Additional replacement cloth media filter disks can be purchased from the manufacturer.
Lifecycle
The AquaDisk lasts 7-10 years before replacement.
Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters
The manufacturer specifies performance targets related to high solid and hydraulic loading rates, low hydraulic profile and backwash rates, and low life-cycle cost.
Vetted Performance Status
The AquaDisk cloth media filter has been vetted in Wisconsin pilot studies by the manufacturer, for a Total Phosphorus removal of <75 ?g/L.
Safety
The systems must be maintained properly and back washed consistently to ensure optimal filtration and that the discharged clean water is safe to use.
Complementary Technical Systems
As a tertiary filtration system, the AquaDisk must be coupled with a primary filtration system to initially remove solids and substrates from the wastewater.

Compliance with regulations
Cloth media is approved under California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22.
Evaluation methods
The filtration systems are evaluated based on the average flow rate they accommodate, the frequency of maintenance and cleaning, and the level of particle removal efficiency by the cloth filtration media.
