The north finder is an inertial device for measuring the true north azimuth. It is mostly used in mining, oil logging, tunnel construction and other fields, because these industries work in a harsh environment, so it is essential to be able to cope with the harsh environment. The composition of the north finder is very similar to that of the inertial system, which is composed of a gyroscope, an accelerometer and corresponding algorithms. You can also understand that by adding an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) to the north finding algorithm, we can get a north finding system, that is the north finder.
The gyroscope and accelerometer in the north finder determine its size. For example, a fiber optic north finder contains a fiber optic gyroscope and a quartz accelerometer, so its size cannot reach the size of a MEMS north finder. The reason why this north finder is the smallest in the world is that it contains a MEMS gyroscope and MEMS accelerometer, and has been further optimized in size and volume, its size is 38.6×44.8×25.5mm, and its weight is only 70g. Because of its small size and light weight, its power consumption is also very low.
In the process of developing this north finder, we have maintained its due north finding accuracy, but have made greater improvements in size, which is a milestone progress.
