About Sam Butterworth
After obtaining an MEng in Civil Engineering with Sustainability in 2016, Sam relocated to Uganda to join Whave Solutions, a non-profit WASH service company, where he spent the next 3 years working to rehabilitate and maintain rural water points all over the country. As Service Area Engineer, Sam oversaw all technical implementation of Whave activities within Uganda and was responsible for supervising and advising all programme area field engineers and technicians in working towards SDG 6.1 and the complete recovery of O&M costs through life cycle analysis. Sam is also interested in the design and construction of more sophisticated rural water supply technologies, such as solar driven piped systems, which can offer a higher level of service to rural communities. Currently, Sam works as a Technical Consultant specialising in life cycle analysis and will begin an MSc in Water and Sanitation for Development in October 2021.
