Project Overview

Project Description

GreenBay is a project under Delta40 Venture Studio in Nairobi. The GreenBay project is about forming a marketplace for second-life clean energy appliances like electric cookers, washing machines, refrigerators, kettles etc. GreenBay is also looking to add electric batteries and solar appliances and refurbish or repurpose them. Currently, GreenBay doesn’t have streamlined processes for repairing or refurbishing these appliances, taking into account the spares available in the market, the cost, repair technician skills and the differences in brand and quality amongst the different manufacturers. This project will aim to introduce streamlined processes for the repair/refurbishment of all the appliances on GreenBay’s website along with solar and batteries.

Impact

The project will aim to create employment for informal service sector workers in Kenya and upgrade their skills. This effort will also increase the end-of-life of all-electric, solar appliances, and home appliances and see that they are disposed of sustainably. GreenBay’s offering enables access to cheaper second-hand appliances in rural areas where they would previously not be available through the online platform. The electric batteries that will be repurposed, would replace oil/petrol bikes and vehicles. The SDGs that will be impacted are SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
